A Year Ago Today...

It was a year ago today that I flew to Las Vegas for the second time. Mom had broken her second hip on the way from California to Arizona. She was in the hospital in Kingman, AZ. My brother-in-law, Ron picked me up at the airport and we drove to the hospital. Shortly after I arrived mom was moved into rehab. The nurses allowed me to stay with her around the clock. At the beginning, we had no idea how long we would be staying. It got old, but the time with mom will always bring precious memories. I had trouble leaving my own family and being gone over Thanksgiving, but it somehow seemed appropriate. On Thanksgiving Day I celebrated my 45th birthday, in the hospital, with my mom! We spent my first Thanksgiving, and her last, in the hospital together. It was an awful day for us. Mom was SO very sick, and it was on that day that we finally found out why. She had a horrible infection, VRE, and in the end, I believe it contributed greatly to her death. They put us in isolation, which really was a joke, but we didn't know that at the beginning and thought it was going to be terrible! Donna came to the hospital with plates of Thanksgiving for us and we sat at the end of mom's bed and talked about what we were thankful for. I wish that I had a picture of this, but I don't.
Tomorrow we will leave to have Thanksgiving with Cary's family. We'll be back on Friday, and then I will tell you about the biggest birthday present I ever got! It's a STORY, and I DO have pictures! Till next time...

Before you left last year you gave me a 1 Year Daily Devotional book which Dave and I have read every morning (usually at 4:30am before we go to the gym). We have loved it and if we missed a day for some reason we would just catch up the next day. The point is I guess we will have to go shopping Fri. to get a new one or we will be doing "reruns'. Thank You very much it was a great gift.
